Alsópáhok

The settlement of Alsópáhok is situated int he most beautiful part of Hungary 7km from Keszthely and Lake Balaton and 1km from the world-famous Lake of Hévíz. The unique attraction of the village is its ideal geographical features, according to which it can provide relatively cheap accommodation facilities and make use of the excellent possibilities for the tourists.
The name of the village probably came from the verb 'páhol' that means hit or beat. According to Dr Imre Szántó the plural form of the word 'páholás' - meaning beating raw leather - refers to the job of the tanners worked in the area.
During the centuries there were several villages where people dealt with similar jobs based on the nearby warm water spring. The Little Lake Balaton Reservation District can be found 5km from the village. This natural park with its unique plants and animal species provide excellent fishing facilities as well. Europe's only buffalo park can be found in the nearby Kápolnapuszta.
Balaton Airport of Sármellék can be found 4km from the Alsópáhok. As a result, the village can be reached by plane as well.
Beside Lake of Hévíz, you can easily reach the thermal spas of Kehidakustány (10km) and of Zalakaros (20km) from the village.
