GYÕR, THE CITY OF MEETINGS

Gyõr, “the city of meetings” attracts you with numerous sights to see. Owing to its central location, it already had a strategic role in Roman times and nowadays it is one of Hungary’s most significant cities with respect to historic buildings. It won the Europe Award for Preserving Historic Buildings as an acknowledgement for the reconstruction of the baroque city centre. Visitors are inspired by historic churches, palaces, museums, characteristic corner-balconies, narrow alleys to take walks in the city centre. As attractive settings for roaming, you can find cafés, restaurants, guest-houses in the old streets, where you can see the rightly famous hospitality of local people. In this scenery peerlessly abounding in harmonic baroque pieces of architecture, visitors either loving arts or demanding high quality entertainment can all find attractive programmes throughout the year. The city is proud of its internationally and nationally well-known and acknowledged art institutes and festivals. In the city centre, you can find several historic and art museums, galleries, permanent exhibitions.

The city of Gyõr has engaged to utilise its thermal springs to build a health-tourism complex with the major aim of serving citizens. By October 2003, a over two-billion HUF investment project will have been accomplished to construct the city spa. The project aims to establish a European standard building complex including a thermal bath and an aqua park.

The investment project includes establishing the following elements:
Indoor thermal bath: Including two pools with different water temperature, and one leisure pool, which will inspire bathers to move owing to its effervescent bath effect, and which will have a direct “swimmer’s corridor” leading to the outdoor semi-roofed pool, also suitable for swimming.
Indoor aqua park: Two-storey pool complex with leisure elements, connected with chute flumes.
Sauna, Turkish bath: Including sauna, Turkish bath, outdoor cool water pool, effervescent bath, massage.
Dressing rooms: Serving more than 1100 guests at a time.

Elevators will be available to help disabled people’s traffic. The Spa Complex of Gyõr will become a new member of the company of famous Hungarian spas in the autumn of 2003, creating excellent new facilities for active recreation, reviving and entertainment.
