Uniquely in the whole world, the thermal water and mud of the spa of Hévíz possess natural health-giving quality constantly reviving at every moment of the year. The Lake in Hévíz with its area of 4,44 ha is the greatest thermal water lake of health-giving quality not only in Europe, but also in the world. Temperature and quality of water is protected from exposures of the environs (wind and dust) and harmful effects of civilisation with a forest of 50ha. Temperature of the lake is the result of hot and cold spring waters coming from the depth of earth. This hot water welling up from spring crater gives and supplies the water of the lake. Water temperature is about 33–35 °C in the summer, but on sunny, windless days it can even go up to 36–38 °C. In cool, mostly windy weather water cools down to 30–32 °C as a result of faster evaporation of the surface. In the autumn and winter temperature is lower depending on the actual weather, but never goes under 22 °C supposing that the temperature of air does not go under -20 °C. In case of medium hard winter, water temperature is about 26–29 °C. The indifferent temperature water does not make patients tired, on the contrary, it makes them relaxed and fresh. All these attributes enable patients looking for cure to bathe either in the indoor section of the spa in winter, or in the open air in fine weather. Temperature of water is almost the same in the whole lake.The essence of the curing therapy in Hévíz is that bathing is “dosed” on the basis of, and as stipulated by sophisticated scientific knowledge and medical practice of several decades or even centuries. The potency of the cure is complex, accurately determined by several factors such as water temperature, chemical components, mud, air, emanation, climate.
